An AI called 10,000+ times. 851 places gave a straight answer.

I got tired of arriving somewhere with my son’s buggy and being turned away at the door. Google Maps doesn’t ask. TripAdvisor doesn’t ask. So I built Poppy: an AI that calls London venues and asks one question: are you pram-friendly? The answers go on a free map covering 851 venues across 27 London areas. Every pin represents a real conversation. Poppy asked. A human picked up. The answer is on the map.

Free map. Final dataset. No reviews. Just what venues said when the phone rang.

“I got tired of arriving at a cafe with my kid’s buggy and being turned away at the door. Nobody had the data. Google Maps doesn’t ask. TripAdvisor doesn’t ask. So I built an AI to call ahead for me. I didn’t expect it to become a systematic dataset. I didn’t expect anyone to care. But here we are.”

Four ways to think about it

Tech / AI

An AI called 10,000+ times. Only the calls a human answered made the map. That’s what makes the data real.

Every rating came from a real conversation. Only a handful suspected a machine. Average call: 31 seconds.

Parenting

A systematic pushchair access map, built by a dad with a buggy and too much curiosity

About 106,000 babies are born in London every year (GLA, 2024: 106,129 births). Google doesn’t tell you if your buggy fits through the door.

Data

Islington tops the area ranking. GAIL’s said yes in 23 of 26 branches.

Every area we called, ranked by accessibility. Real phone calls, not reviews. First time this data has existed.

Weird & Unexpected

Poppy called another AI. Then another. Three AI-to-AI conversations about pushchair access.

Gloria, Carlotta, Caravan King’s Cross. Two AIs. One question. Neither blinked.

Three steps. One honest answer.

Google Maps doesn’t ask. TripAdvisor doesn’t ask. So we built an AI to call ahead for you, every venue in London. Anyone can put venues on a map. Buggy Smart only shows you what a human actually said.

01

Our AI calls

A friendly AI voice agent calls every venue and asks directly: are you pram-friendly? Can a pushchair get through the door?

02

We listen

The conversation is transcribed and analysed. Each venue is classified as buggy-friendly, tight squeeze, or not accessible, based on what they actually said.

03

You decide

Results appear on a free interactive map with quotes, ratings, and notes straight from the venue. No guessing. No outdated reviews.

The calls that never made it onto the map (voicemail, phone menus, no answer, a muddled reply) aren’t failures. They’re the filter. Only about one call in eight reached a person who gave a clear answer, and that is what makes the map reliable.

10,000+ conversations. Real questions, real answers, on the phone like anyone else would ask.

851 venues. Every pin is a real phone call.

Green means yes. Amber means tight. Red means no. Every rating comes from Poppy calling the venue and asking directly. Calling stopped in October 2026, and every result collected is on the map.

Rare AI detection rate A handful spotted it was an AI

A buggy access dataset built from real phone calls.

While the project was running, the classifier re-checked past calls as it improved, so ratings got more accurate even for calls made months earlier. Calling stopped in October 2026, so every rating is now a snapshot of what staff said on that call.

The map improved itself overnight

On 20 April 2026, 184 venues were added to the map overnight without a single new call. The pipeline ran at 9pm, worked through a backlog of previously-unclear transcripts, resolved them, and deployed by morning. No human was involved at any point.

🤖 AI called AI
Then Poppy called Gloria.
Neither of them blinked.
Poppy Hi, silly question, are you baby and pram friendly?
Gloria Thanks for calling Gloria London. How can I help you today? Just so you know, I’m an AI assistant, and this call is being recorded.
Gloria Yes, we can definitely accommodate prams. We have high chairs available and we’ll help you get your pram situated where space allows.

Gloria is an AI receptionist at a Shoreditch venue. Poppy called it. Two AIs discussed pram access for about a minute. Neither flagged it as unusual.

The answers, in their own words.

Six of the calls, word for word. Every quote here is checked against the call data, and you can hear these and 30 more in the Hall of fame.

GAIL's Bakery · Hackney
Buggy friendly

“There's also a button on the outside that you can press and we can come and help you.”

Two small steps, and a buzzer outside so staff can come and help.

The Plimsoll · Haringey
Tight squeeze

“There's about two spaces in the entire place where we can pop a pram.”

Two spots in the whole pub. Now you know.

Blacklock City · Southwark
Buggy friendly

“When you make the reservation, you need to count the baby as an additional person.”

A tip worth knowing: book the baby as an extra guest and you get a table with room.

CuppaPug · Hackney
Tight squeeze

“The pram will be stored in a separate space just to stop the pugs from weeing on it.”

A pug cafe keeps prams safe from the pugs.

Brigadiers · Southwark
Not accessible

“We cannot accommodate pushchairs in the restaurant, and we do not have high chairs available.”

A polite, clear no. This is why red pins exist.

The Lexington · Camden
Not accessible

“It gets quite busy and noisy. And we are 18 plus from 5 o'clock.”

A kind, honest no: busy and noisy, and over-18s only from 5pm.

Three London venues, Gloria, Carlotta and Caravan King’s Cross, answer the phone with their own AI receptionist. Poppy called them all. Two AIs, one question: can a buggy get through the door? Then neither of them could stop saying goodbye.

Things parents actually ask

Because this data should have existed ten years ago and it didn’t. Google doesn’t ask. TripAdvisor doesn’t ask. No council website has it. Parents with pushchairs have always had to find out the hard way, by showing up and hoping. The only thing that changed is that making 10,000 phone calls is now possible for one person with a laptop.

Yes. An AI voice agent genuinely calls each venue by phone. You can listen to real calls in the Hall of fame.

Every rating comes from a real phone conversation. We classify venues based on what they actually said, not reviews, not Google Maps, not guesswork. The ratings come from calls made between March and September 2026. Calling has now stopped, so treat every rating as a snapshot and check before a big trip.
